A few thoughts

My earliest memory of Christine is being taken, aged 4, by her to a Liverpool Music school on Saturdays to attend a beginners’ percussion band and, having been shown some piano basics by Christine at home, following this up with piano lessons at the music school. Christine would also play her clarinet each year in the pit for a Birkenhead pantomime and I, as a beginner flautist, having been kindly allowed to join in, would struggle to keep up with the part. I remember Christine as a brave, positive person and she was funny. I remember, aged 7 or 8, being so cross that she made fun of and completely ruined (in my mind) the serious scene in my re-writing of Sleeping Beauty, performed at home. It was hilarious to everyone except me! Christine wasn’t afraid to try new ideas and practices. She bought a motor scooter and if I was lucky I could get a ride to school before she went off to work at the Women’s Hospital in Claremount Road. Christine was very active supporting St John’s Hospice. She also loved sport. Walking, swimming, cycling and squash were particular favourites, but she yearned also to improve her knowledge and learning and we had a celebration when she was awarded her BSc in 1994. This wasn’t enough though and the degree was followed by a further Diploma in German. However personally satisfying as well as beneficial to her career working for the nhs, these achievements could not replace Christine’s love for her family - Michael, Elaine, Louise and Chris and grandchildren Helen and Kate. I am sure she will always be in their hearts.
